There are many people like Don Polk who are helping to bring about real change in our society and trying to eliminate the stereotypes that have been separating humans from one another for centuries. Don Polk is the founder and director of Don Polk & Company, an advisory and advocacy firm that serves private companies, communities and nonprofit organizations in the health and economic equality sector. He believes that before change can come about, we must learn to see the difference between what we perceive, what we believe in and what the actual reality is.
Since America has such a stifling, confusing and often demoralizing past, it has been easy for people to develop some heinous stereotypes and misconceptions that they do not even realize are so biased and inaccurate. Don Polk sees this fact, but he also believes that if we can be more open and brutally honest about race and about what our beliefs are that we can start to work on these things and see each other more clearly. Don Polk says that the responsibility of the new generation is to take the torch lit by such visionaries as Martin Luther King, Jr. and John F. Kennedy, and use that light to touch the media in a positive way.

Episodes of television shows can even be some of the worst spreaders of hate and intolerance. If people can use that power to speak the truth, though, they can have the same dramatic affect on the mindsets of those around them. Don Polk has said that it’s time to let people know the earth is no longer flat and there is a beautiful and colorful sphere left to be explored. Mr. Don Polk has seen the way that human beings in every culture and community make up myths about other groups of people that they do not identify with and disguise those myths as beliefs to fill in the gaps in their knowledge. This is something that everyone is most likely guilty of at one time or another. This is something Don Polk is working aggressively to change.
Don Polk sees people becoming their own film directors in a sense, because we tend to cast characters into restrictive roles based on our perceptions and past experiences, regardless of whether we know the first thing about these “characters” that we come across in our lives. It may seem harmless to believe in a few stereotypes if everyone else is doing it. But Don Polk sees this as the real danger that it is. The Nazis easily believed in the lies and misconceptions that were disseminated about the Jewish people, inspiring them to guiltlessly slaughter millions of German Jews who had done them no harm.
While the Holocaust might be a thing of the past, Don Polk realizes that the type of crazed mind and outlandish perception that led to the genocide of 6 million Jews and countless gentiles, homosexuals, Catholics and other groups still exists. Don Polk can see subtler forms of stereotypes and misconceptions in our modern world, from the products we use to the cartoons our children watch to the political systems in the world. Although a movie about Native Americans that is based on misconception might not seem dangerous, Don Polk sees that these subtle misconceptions are more treacherous than they seem. These misconceptions can become like fact in people’s minds.
Many people, including Don Polk, are fighting to change the misconceptions between cultures. With open communication and advocacy, we can all begin seeing a clearer picture of one another.

Don Polk, the founder and director of Don Polk & Companies, sees a need for aggressive change in our nation and our communities. Don Polk is using his organization to focus on advising and advocating for privately held companies, communities and nonprofit organizations such as health, civil and economic equity groups. This has put him in a special position to inspire the kind of aggressive change that he is talking about.
The difference between perception, reality and actuality is what Don Polk sees a need for aggressive change in. When people see other groups of people that they do not immediately identify with, they create beliefs and myths around those people to bridge their own gap of knowledge. Don Polk quotes Camille Paglia on this subject, in a statement she made about stereotypes. “The moment there is imagination, there is myth,” said Paglia. Don Polk believes that people create stories to fill in the missing pieces in their knowledge about other people and groups that are different from themselves.
The change that Don Polk is setting forth to instigate has to do with cultural mythology that we create to explain the unexplained. Don Polk has seen the way we as human beings treat that which we believe to be foreign. We even label other human beings from “foreign” countries as aliens, the same term we use to describe the strange green men that we have conjured up in our collective imagination to encompass our fears of the unknown space world. In this way, human beings can justify our intolerance of one another, because it seems perfectly justifiable to be suspicious of that which we see as “alien.” Don Polk believes it is time to make an aggressive change in our understanding of one another, though.
An advisory and advocacy group like Don Polk & Co. has the ability, resources and influence to affect that kind of change discussed here. Mr. Polk is planning to use his resources to do just that.

Many people, such as Don Polk, see a need for hard-hitting change in our communities and our society as a whole. The change that Don Polk sees has to do with the misconceptions that people develop about other people and groups that they do not understand. This is a huge problem in every community. Even people who have had horrible experiences with prejudice against them in their own lives will more than likely have some sort of prejudices against other people at some point, even if they don’t realize it. If Don Polk has his way, these misconceptions and stereotypes will begin to disappear as we see each other for who we truly are.

He is hoping to use his influence and resources to combat the dangerous habit of crating myths about the people and groups that we don’t understand. These beliefs and misconceptions are not only dangerous on an individual level, according to Don Polk; they are dangerous on a societal level. Just look at the Holocaust.
The paradigm that reflects Don Polk and his desire for the hard working people in the nation and around the world encompasses wealth, health, knowledge, wisdom, happiness and joy. Don Polk honestly believes that it is possible for everyone in the world who is willing to work hard and do the right thing to have these things. He believes it is possible to live in a world where communities are empowered, hope is inspired, despair is diminished, crime is a thing of the past, women are revered, children are respected, men are encouraged and all community members are supported.
In order for these things to be possible, Don Polk believes that human beings must first learn to break down the walls of stereotypes and misconceptions that separate us.

Don Polk has relinquished all management, operations or ownership of previous companies to focus on his new role as the director of an advisory and advocacy group for privately held companies, communities and nonprofit organizations. At the same time, Don Polk is creating a path for his children, his children’s children and other children around the world. Don Polk aspires to make a difference by building a foundation and building a community where perpetual joy, peace and prosperity are abundant.
Before becoming director of Don Polk and Company or starting any of his other business ventures, Mr. Polk got his education at Cal-State San Bernardino, Cal-State Los Angeles and Boston University. Southern California is where Don Polk started out life, and it is where his current business operates out of. As far as the future, Don Polk believes he will have achieved his purpose on the earth and attained ultimate peace, joy, happiness and wealth when he has built a foundation and a community where perpetual joy, peace and prosperity are abundant.

Southern California has always been home for Don Polk, who began his formal education at California State University at San Bernardino and California State University at Los Angeles. While Don Polk finished his college years at Boston University, he ended up back in Southern California when he decided to start his business career. He currently operates Don Polk & Company, an advisory and advocacy group, out of an office in Beverly Hills, California. He serves as Director of the group.
Don Polk is currently focusing on providing advisory and advocatory services for privately held companies, communities and non-profit organizations including primarily health, civil and economic equity groups. At this point, Don Polk has or in is in the process of relinquishing all management, operations or ownership of previous companies that he was involved with. He wants to focus on the work that Don Polk & Co. is doing, which he hopes will help to provide wealth, health, knowledge, wisdom, happiness and joy to those he serves.
Don Polk has lofty aspirations in terms of his desires for hard working people in America and around the globe and what he believes they can attain. Don Polk has a vision of a world where communities can be empowered, hope can be inspired, despair and crime can be diminished, women and children can be revered and respected; and men can be encouraged and supported. He is attempting to create a path for his children, his children’s children and other children through Don Polk & Co. and his other works.
